Welcome to the Raglan Road Playgroup website...

Our setting is a small, well run playgroup which has been operating close to Walton Park for over 45 years. We have 5 members of staff, most of whom have been with us for a long time, their own children having attended the playgroup.

Our staff are very child-orientated, and our aim is to provide your child with a safe, happy, stimulating environment to develop in until they start school. The staff are qualified to at least Level 2 and 3 in Childcare, and regularly attend courses to help them to keep up to date with thinking about early years care and education. All staff are also qualified in First Aid.

We have a high ratio of staff to children - usually 3 members of staff for each session, each session holding a maximum of 25 children, so your child will be sure to get plenty of individual attention.

We use a key person approach, which means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom she/he is particularly responsible. Your child’s key person will be the person who works with you to make sure that what we provide is right for your child’s particular needs and interests. The key person will perform written reports and observations on your child throughout their time at playgroup as per Ofsted requirements.

The provision for children’s development and learning is guided by The EarlyYears Foundation Stage, and we are regulated and assessed by Ofsted. This also means that at the start of the school term following your child’s third birthday, you can use your 12 ½ hours  childcare entitlement with us.

We run a toddler group on Monday, and playgroup sessions from Tuesday to Friday, all during school term times.

We are a registered charity, and are managed by a parent management committee, which are elected by the parents of the children at the setting. If you would like to be involved in your child’s playgroup we always welcome new members.

As a charity we rely on fundraising to keep us going. Look out for our fundraising events during the year, the big ones being the Summer Cream Tea, where we have lots of exciting things going on for the children, including face painting, a bouncy castle, and a visit from the fire brigade (emergencies permitting), when your child can experience climbing in a fire engine; and our ever popular Christmas Fair, which Santa opens after arriving on the train, with lots of exciting stalls and activities for the family to enjoy inside, as well as a visit to Santa in his grotto and a ride on the train.
